On December 19, 2015 the Sheriff’s Youth Foundation’s (YAL) hosted a Hero and Helpers day at the Target store in the city of Compton. 85 Students from the Century YAL were given a $50 dollar gift card from Target to shop for gifts for their family. Captain Ernest E. Chavez of Century Sheriff’s Station showed his support by dressing as Santa Claus and greeted the youth as they arrived to shop. Target closed their store for an hour and allowed youths accompanied with a Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff to select gifts from their holiday list. Once their gifts were selected members of the Target team wrapped them. As the youth exited Target they were given a sling backpack along with school supplies.
Starbucks also showed their support by providing a continental breakfast for the Century YAL youth.
