Deputy Explorer Program

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Deputy Explorer Program is a career development and education program, open to youths who are between fourteen years and twenty-one years of age, who have expressed an interest in the law enforcement profession and volunteering in their community.
Its purpose is to provide training and experiences that assist youths in maturing and becoming more responsible, compassionate, independent, and self-confident.

The Deputy Explorer Program began in 1969.  Since then, several thousand youths have benefited from their participation in the program.  Many former Deputy Explorers have gone on to pursue careers within the Public Service sector, Community leadership, and the Armed Forces.

Deputy Explorers volunteer thousands of hours to their respective communities annually through their participation in Sheriff’s Department activities and events, while learning valuable life lessons. They are a valuable community asset.
